#A-Z Challenge – H Is For Horse’s Neck
The bland bruchetta did more harm to the tension filled air between them. The unsigned divorce papers lay on the coffee table the way he had left them. She had been drinking all day and had lost her appetite. He kept listening to her rants. What and when did anything go wrong, he just could not figure. He was oblivious to anything unwonted until she handed him the divorce papers that morning.
Back in the bedroom, she kept serving herself Horse’s Neck in her highball glass. She had resolved on drowning herself to the concoction along with tears and distress.
P. S – Horse’s Neck is a cocktail made with brandy (or sometimes bourbon) and ginger ale, with a long spiral of lemon peel (zest) draped over the edge of an ‘old-fashioned’ or highball glass. Dating back to the 1890s, it was a non-alcoholic mixture of ginger ale, ice and lemon peel. The alcoholic version used today sees the drink typically fortified with brandy, although some recipes call for whisky or bourbon instead. The alcoholic version is sometimes known as a “Horse’s Neck with a Kick”.
I have signed up for Blogging From A-Z Challenge- April 2017. I would be writing 100 words fiction this A-Z season. My fiction pieces will be twisted around various cocktails.
